The 1st Lecture of the Overseas Law Forum of SUFE in 2018 Have Been Successfully Held

On the evening of March 20, 2018, the first lecture of the Overseas Law Forum of Shanghai University of Finance and Economics was successfully held in Room 220 of the Law School. The guest speaker of this lecture was Associate Professor John Smagula of China’s legal system project at Temple University. Director Sangula made excellent lectures on the theme of “American Legal Education System and Its Recent Development”, and conducted in-depth exchanges and discussions with teachers and students of our school. The lecture was hosted by Prof. Ge Weijun, the deputy director of the Institute. Ms. Wang Wei, Executive Director of the China Legal Affairs Project Office of Temple University in the United States, Wei Wei, our teacher, and some master students participated in the lecture.




Mr. Ge first expressed his warm welcome to Director Sangula and his delegation. He briefly introduced the basic situation of the Law School, emphasized the advantages of our institute in the Britain-American Law Certificate Program, and English-language masterpieces programs. He hoped that he would be able to cooperate with Temple University Law School in the future. Director Sangula thanked the Law School for its warm hospitality and pointed out that Temple University Law School and Shanghai University of Finance and Economics Law School have their own characteristics in terms of teaching philosophy and practice research. Both parties have a lot of space for in-depth cooperation.



Director Sangula introduced the thinking of law in American university through a case, and then introduced the curriculum and teaching methods of the American Law School from the aspects of the inheritance of law, such as Socrates teaching methods and legal clinic courses. Temple University emphasizes practice and pays attention to the cultivation of applied talents. It coincides with the idea of cultivating talents at the Law School of Shanghai University of Finance and Economics. Afterwards, Director Sangula discussed the legal English with the students and discussed the basic methods of legal English learning, such as the profound methodologies and divergent learning methods, which inspired the students. In the end, Director Sangula made a detailed introduction to the LL.M project and the GED project of Temple University, and welcomed the students in our school to apply actively.
