Students from Japan’s Hitotsubashi University exchanged opinions with students from the School of Law of Shanghai University of Finance and Economics to inspect rural agricultural activities

From September 8th to 9th, 2018, students from the School of Economics of Hitotsubashi University and students from the School of Law of Shanghai University of Finance and Economics rushed to Chongming Island to conduct exchanges and visits to rural agriculture activities. This is the fourth consecutive year of joint exchange activities between the students of the two universities.

On the morning of September 8, Professor Yoshikawa Nakagawa and the special lecturer of Park Jung-woo, Faculty of Economics, Hitotsubashi University, Japan, led the school to Fu Bozhen, Yokoo Ichi, Ota Yasuke, Ohara Ami, Mitsui Risuke, Yamanaka, Shinsuke Asuka, Yuki, Imi. 11 students, including Guo Yuchen and Fujita, and 11 associate students, including Professor Ge Weijun and Zhang Jincai, Li Pu, Zhou Yuan, Zhang Yuxin, Zhang Ke, Wang Xuhui, Zhang Chi, Shao Mengyu, Cui Lianning, Xia Danni, Li Jianming, etc. Prof. Zhang Wenming from the School of Social Development of the Normal University, Associate Professor Li Jing from the School of Economics and Management, and 6 graduate students from the School of Social Development, gathered at the entrance of Shanghai University of Finance and Economics and took a bus to the cooperative in Gangxi Town, Chongming Island to conduct an in-depth investigation.




The first thing to look at was the Fanxin Cooperative. The crop grown on this cooperative's farm is reed (a sugarcane-like herb with stalks, leaves and sorghum similar). Under the introduction of the local agricultural planting person, the students learned that the reed is a special product of Chongming, so Chongming Island, which is rich in reeds, has also been given the reputation of “the land of reeds”. The juice in the reed pole is sweet and fresh and can be eaten directly. It is also used for feed and wine making. Through the introduction, the students learned that the large-scale planting of farmers and sales to the island has formed a scale and has an open market.






The next visit was the Yuting Cooperative, which mainly planted grapes. The farmer introduced and explained the development of the cooperative, including communication with technical experts, financing methods and plantation construction. The students went to the planting area in the greenhouse to pick and taste the fresh grapes on the vines. This grape is a new variety - rose grapes, a purple grape that tastes rose. The students were amazed at the new varieties of grapes that could produce such sweetness and deliciousness.

The morning trip came to an end and the students started the afternoon study after they had finished using the meal at the local farm. The students first took a bus to the local Ximen Primary School in Chongming Island. Under the introduction of Zhang Yu, the School of Social Development of East China Normal University, the students learned about the characteristics of the school system, the characteristics of running a school and the educational concept of the primary school in China, and further realized the Chinese and Japanese, and the commonalities and differences between the two countries in education.






Then the students came to the Jialing Cooperative near this elementary school. The courtyard is filled with exquisite crafts made with Ganoderma lucidum. The cooperative uses the greenhouse to grow Ganoderma lucidum, and after the ripening of Ganoderma lucidum, it is processed into a fine handicraft. The final products include potted plants, cranes, dragonflies, peacocks, etc., in a variety of ways. The students also went to the greenhouse to observe the living environment of Ganoderma lucidum.






At the end of the day, the students came to a pool of lotus-covered Pond-town meeting Rooms. First the local agricultural entrepreneur Wangbo shared the entrepreneurial experience. He talked about how to go to Japan to study agricultural technology, after returning home how to start a difficult venture, to now contract more than 400 acres of scale, paid a lot of sweat, invested a lot of time and energy, most of the year in the field busy farming. then, Gangxi Mayor Cang made a concluding statement, he briefly introduced the development of Gangxi agriculture in the past few years, the transformation of agricultural model, and the efforts made in the rural area of this new model of Subcontracting.     

 After the talks, to enter the question and answer session, the Chinese and Japanese students had a strong interest in the management model mentioned by the mayor, and actively ask Questions. On the morning of September 9, all the teachers and students visited Dongtan Wetland Park and had a taste of the wetland landscape.

Having close contact with nature, feeling the importance of natural environment protection and ecological civilization construction, all students in the event said they were reaping a lot. Chinese classmate Shaomong thought, "chongming Island's Development compared to other rural areas is certainly better, the future of rural development, like the mayor of the government set up a platform, enterprises in an opera, corporate government together help each other China's urban and rural gap will gradually reduce, China will become better." China's rural areas are completely different from what I imagined. I  learned a lot of agriculture-related knowledge, thanks to the school to provide this opportunity, and also thank the Chinese students Accompany.” The exchange investigation is short but full. The students in the activity not only strengthened the knowledge and understanding of the situation of the Chinese and Japanese parties, deepened the feelings between the students, but also felt China's agricultural and ecological construction of fruitful results on the third largest island--Chongming island.
